They can be converted to flac with free ware Foobar or freeware version of DB Power Amp. Their is some quality loss, but I'm not sure that my Oppo is good enough to hear the difference. IMO, the main reason the Oppo sounds so good is because the engineering is just good enough to make high res sound much better than cd. The Full The Road To El Dorado Cartoon there.

My Esoteric/PS Audio 2 box 1990's player sounds much better on 44/16 cd than the Oppo does. Of course the Oppo also has stunning video (& at the time of purchase their was a $30 blu-ray region hack, & afaik it's the best sounding player ever made that will play SACD-r's), so I'm not complaining for the $800 I paid (Demo discount!).

The above worked for my player with the BDP firmware. This is for DVD only. I have not found a way to change Blu-ray. 11/24/09 My player has firmware BDP. I tried it and the player will not recognize the ISO file. It does not autoplay it goes to a root file menu and shows the file as empty.
